Governor Rell Announces New Energy Program for Homes with Oil and Propane
General Information
Governor Rell announced a new program to help Connecticut residents who heat their homes with oil or propane save money by making their heating systems and homes more energy efficient. The program offers two separate components. One is a clean, tune and test of your oil or propane heating system to insure that it is running at peak efficiency. The second is professional weatherization services through the Home Energy Solutions Program supported by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund.
Participation is limited based on available funding.
Weatherization Services - Home Energy Solutions
The Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund supports the Home Energy Solutions Program, a home weatherization program that is administered by CL&P and UI. Use the following links to learn more about this program. To sign up, use the enrollment link to download an application then follow the instructions to fax or mail the application to your utility. UI customers can enroll on-line.
Clean, Tune and Test
Fuel oil dealers and licensed heating, ventilation and cooling contractors will provide the clean, tune and test services under the Governor's program. However, they must register with the Office of Policy and Management (OPM) to participate. So, please contact your fuel oil dealer or licensed HVAC contractor to schedule your clean, tune and test. If you contractor is not aware of the program, please direct them to this web site and the information below. Please note that this part of the program is in the final stages of development.
In an effort to get fuel oil dealers and licensed heating and cooling contractors registered to participate, the Office of Policy and Management will hold an informational session for interested contractors on November 10, 2008, at 2 p.m., at Northeast Utilities headquarters in Berlin, CT. Licensed contractors wishing to attend should register by calling 866-940-4676 or emailing Julie.cammarata@ct.gov.
Purchase Energy Star Lighting Products At Discounted Prices
The general public can purchase Energy Star lighting products at prices that are discounted well below full retail. These events, which are held at businesses, government facilities, schools and hospital throughout Connecticut, are supported by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and operated by Techniart, a Connecticut energy service company.
Energy Fairs provide a convenient way for consumers to purchase products that can help them lower their consumption, save money and reduce harmful emissions. In addition, the knowledgable staff from Techniart can answer questions about CFLs or your lighting needs as well as provide information about other energy saving products.

Residential Furnace Rebate Program - Rebates to $500
Residential customers who replace an exisiting furnace or boiler with a more efficient model can qualify for a rebate of up to $500. The replacement equipment must meet or exceed Federal Energy Star standards. The program is being administered by the Office of Policy and Management. Click here for more information.

Monetary Grants For Customer Owned Generation Are Now Available
The Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control has been authorized to offer monetary grants and other financial incentives to assist commercial and industrial customers with the cost of installing customer-owned electric generating equipment, commonly referred to as Distributed Generation or "DG."

Federal Tax Credits for Residential Energy Efficiency
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will develop the final rules and forms to clarify which products and services qualify for the tax credits. Please note, not all homes, appliances, and products with the ENERGY STAR label qualify for a tax credit.
CTCleanEnergyOptions reaches milestone - 20,000 enrolled.
CTCleanEnergyOptions is a Department of Public Utilities Control (DPUC) approved program that allows any CL&P or UI customer the opportunity to support clean energy made from renewable resources such as wind and hydroelectric. Customers who enroll, pay a small clean energy surcharge and continue to receive electric generation services from CL&P, UI or an electric supplier. Enroll now and join the over 20,000 Connecticut consumers that have already committed to support clean energy.
